The 5th International Conference on Behavioral Addictions (ICBA) (Cologne, Germany)

The 5th ICBA is now officially over and I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the entire organization team in Germany that worked so hard to put up such a large-scale international event. As a person who has only missed the first edition of the ICBA, it was (pleasantly) clear that this year the ICBA grew significantly in all areas in comparison to the previous years.

The ICBA is the only and most important conference discussing a wide range of aspects surrounding the issue of behavioral addictions. Colleagues from all over the world that conduct amazing clinical and research-related work in the field are usually present and for this reason the ICBA is my preferred event of the year (even more than my birthday!).

This year I would like to say thanks to all of you I had the privilege to talk and spend some minutes discussing our current and future work. On a related note, I would also like to apologize to those I could not talk as this year I had the busiest ICBA ever with all the papers presented and also all the work-related meetings and actual working sessions within the conference with my esteemed and respected Professor Christian Montag who kindly showed me around the lovely city of Cologne and gave me some of his precious time.

During this ICBA we had a general assembly of the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Addictions (ISSBA) and it was an honor for me to be able to participate and contribute to the future of the ISSBA as a member. The ISSBA (with all its members) has drafted a public statement on the World Health Organization regarding its decision to include Gaming Disorder within the next revision of the ICD-11. The statement will soon be public available and shared by me across all usual social media channels.

Finally, I would like to extend my gratitude once again to all of my Nottingham Trent University colleagues who brilliantly represented our Psychology Department.

See you all soon in Yokohama Japan for the 6th edition of the ICBA!

Kind regards
